INTRODUCTION
?
What is IPR

Types of IPR

Why is IPR important
Intellectual property rights are the rights given to persons over the creations of their minds. They usually give the creator an exclusive rights over the use of his/her creation for a certain period of time.
There are four types of intellectual property rights
patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
IPR is critical to fostering innovation. Without the protection of ideas, businesses and individuals would not reap the full benefits of their inventions and would focus less on research and development.
USER SURVEY
After analyzing several Instagram polls and one-on-one interviews with our general target audience (people affected by IPR laws), these were the observations.

have interned/freelanced
belonged to a design field
don't know about IPR
are putting out their work
think plagiarism is common
think knowing their rights can prevent exploitation

If they knew about these concepts, where did they obtain this information from?
A few suggestions from the users.

USER DEMOGRAPHIC
Since this is a vast topic, it was essential to narrow down the target audience. And through our surveys and polls, we were able to observe who our main target was.

Young adults
19-24

Design industry
Students, freelancers
USER PERSONAS
After assessing all the information, these user personas were generated to get a better understanding of our audience.

PAIN POINTS
!
Exploitation due to lack of awareness
Young designers tend to be unaware about these and often end up getting exploited by big companies or even accidentally infringing some work themselves.
!!
Long and boring
Existing methods of obtaining this information is long and tedious and can certainly doze the users off, especially from this age group.
The
concept
Inspired by the legendary 'Spin the Wheel', an interactive board game was created that incorporates the spin feature into its gameplay. Accompanied by a bright colour palette, this game aims to make a rather boring topic into something fun and easy to recall.
Developing the game
REASONING
Since IPR in general seems like a rather intimidating topic, a fun and interactive game that can be an smooth ice-breaker was an apt solution.

GAMEPLAY
The objective is to spin the wheel and finish the tasks allotted to you.
1
Spin the wheel!
11
Pick your fighter
111
Colour, colour which colour do you choose?

The gameboard consists of two levels
The lower wheel being easier and having a higher number of tiles. The players start off on level 1.
1v
Act fast
Each players picks a resume card
The total number of projects and the tasks per project will be indicated on it
V

The tiles are of 6 colours
Each tile corresponds to a card of the same colour.
The good samaritan
Each card has a unique action to perform
4 action cards and 1 chance card
Players receive a token of good work
Every time they choose the right option
Task

A task card has a specific task written on it which will test your IPR knowledge.
There'll be 3 options for you;
skip, take precautions or dive right in.
V1
The Duality of man
Situation

A situation card has a situation written on it which will expose you to the consequences of lack of IPR knowledge.
There'll be 2 options for you;
take the fall or go to court.
If you chose to abide by the law, you can go to court and prove yourself innocent.
If not, you’ll have to remove that particular task from your completed tasks.
Chance

A chance card has a surprise waiting for you.
It could either benefit you or be severely unpleasant.
Developing the brand
NOMENCLATURE
The word ‘right’ covers everything we’re trying to create awareness about, i.e. gaining ownership through copyrights, patents and trademarks.
So, a quick and simple wordplay on the same seemed appropriate.
Brand Name:
Right or Theft
Tagline:
an interactive board game
VISUAL LANGUAGE
Uplighting. Fun. Lively.
The visual style is kept as minimal as possible with simple vectors as the artwork and strong typography usage.
Colour palette
Typography
Gloss and Bloom

To accomodates all types of users and avoid any gender/sex/age discrimination, I chose a bright and bold colour palette with certain subdued shades to balance it out.
A juxtaposition of script font and modern geometric font really balances out the fun and educational aspects.

Let's start
unboxing

The game consists of three discs on top of one another; the first one is level one, the second one is level two and the top one is the stationary disc with the brand name.
The bottom two discs are the rotatable ones that have to be spun.
Gameboard

Cards
Once you spin the wheel and land on a tile, you pick a card and perform the action.

There are 3 distinct types:
Task cards
Situation cards
Chance cards

Character cards create a persona for each player to associate with so that they connect better with the game.
Keeping the theme in mind, these character cards were designed as resumes but in a website format since IPR is a rather cyber topic.
Each persona is customised according to their cultural and educational background, and they all come from a design-oriented background.
Character cards

Tokens are given to the player as proof for choosing the right option and abiding by the law, so that they can present it at court if need be and prove themselves innocent.
The illustration is a play on the copyright symbol by using the negative space of the ‘C’ to portray a cat
